as the author's debut cnf collection, Return to Roots includes 20 personal/travel essays he wrote in december 2024 right after he returned from his annual sojourn in his native place in central china. drawing on his observing experiences during his stay in jingzhou, the collection offers an insight into the ancient chinese tradition "to return to their native place for retirement" like leaves falling back to their roots. among the 20 pieces included, as many as 18 have previously been published individually in print or online magazines.
